Federal Advocacy & Representation

At NETC, we believe that strong broadband networks are essential to modern healthcare. Since 2007, we have been at the forefront of federal advocacy, working to ensure that healthcare providers receive the funding they need to maintain and expand their networks. From engaging with policy makers to collaborating with national broadband coalitions, our efforts help protect and expand the subsidy programs that make high-quality, affordable connectivity possible for healthcare providers across the country.

What: Federal Advocacy for Healthcare Broadband Funding
Why: Ensuring continued support for subsidized connectivity
How: Direct engagement with policymakers & industry partners

Benefits at a Glance

Advocating for broadband funding can be time-consuming and labor-intensive, making it difficult for individual healthcare organizations to engage effectively in policy discussions. That’s where NETC comes in. As long-standing advocates for healthcare broadband funding, we take on this responsibility so our members can stay focused on patient care. Here's what we do:

+ We protect existing funding. Our team actively works to safeguard critical subsidy programs ensuring long-term financial support for healthcare connectivity.

+ We advocate for program improvements. We push for changes that improve the HCF experience for everyone involved, from simplifying the application to streamlining subsidy disbursements and ensuring faster access to funds.

+ We push for expanded subsidy opportunities. By engaging with policymakers and industry leaders, we work to secure new subsidy-eligible expenses and broaden access to funding for healthcare providers.

+ We keep you informed. We monitor legislative and regulatory developments and keep our members informed about any policy changes that might impact their operations.

How it Works

Our advocacy efforts focus on ensuring that healthcare broadband funding remains a national priority. We work closely with national coalitions like the Schools, Health & Libraries Broadband (SHLB) Coalition and NTCA - The Rural Broadband Association, collaborating with industry leaders to protect and expand funding programs like the HCF. In addition to these partnerships, NETC and other HCF participants recently formed a Peer Interest Group focused on advocating for the unique needs of rural healthcare connectivity. Our team also spends time in Washington, D.C., meeting with legislators to discuss the importance of broadband funding. These meetings allow us to share firsthand how HCF subsidies improve healthcare services and why continued support is essential. These efforts have been historically helpful in protecting and expanding rural healthcare funding nationwide, and we remain optimistic about their impact moving forward.

Federal Advocacy FAQ

Why does NETC advocate for healthcare broadband funding?

Since our inception, NETC has worked to ensure that healthcare providers—especially those in rural areas—have the broadband funding they need to support telehealth, patient care, and network expansion. We engage in advocacy to protect these resources and make sure they remain available for years to come.

We work closely with the SHLB Coalition, NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association, and a Peer Interest Group of HCF participants to ensure that healthcare broadband funding remains a top priority at the federal level.

We encourage members to get involved by sharing success stories, participating in coalition efforts, and providing feedback on how funding programs impact their operations. Contact us at info@netelc.org to learn more.
